Bringing back the RSS feed

DAY 1 OF 365 · 0.3% TO OVERNIGHT SUCCESS

Like many others, I’ve spent the last few months looking for ways to escape doom-scrolling or checking the (oftentimes grim) news multiple times a day. One of those ways is with this blog - another, is by reading other people’s blogs.

The last time I had an active RSS feed, I was fifteen. I would boot up my family’s ancient box of a computer, to see the latest SciFi Hub and Gateworld updates. I was so cool (still am, by the way).

Now, over a decade on - I’ve gone back in time to build my own RSS reader and find a number of blogs to follow.

For those who don’t know, Wikipedia defines RSS as (RDF Site Summary, Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) a web feed that allows users and applications to access updates to websites.

It’s basically a quick and easy way to see what things people have published to their blog.

Here are some reader apps if you’re not sure where to start: Reeder & Readkit.

Here’s a link to my blog’s RSS.

If you need other inspiration, here’s a list of blogs I’ve been enjoying recently:

Tina Roth Eisenberg: SwissMiss

Maria Popova: The Marginalian

Creative Mornings

Seth’s Blog

Creative Pep Talk

The Creative Independent

Now, just just to add to the creative chaos, this is what else I’d bring back from the annals of history if I had the power!
