Big River
The rivers of the Murray–Darling Basin have shaped the landscapes and communities of inland Australia. Along their banks, towns have grown, livelihoods have developed, and generations have built connections to water and the life it sustains.
Dams, weirs and irrigation channels tell another part of this story: how we have reshaped the river system to meet our needs. The health of these waterways is closely tied to the wellbeing of the wetlands, wildlife and communities that depend on them.
This ongoing photography project explores that relationship, documenting the rivers and the everyday lives connected to them. Through riverbanks, small towns and the structures that control the flow of water, it considers how we live with these waterways, the changes we have made, and our shared responsibility for their future.
